Manager, Pairing Optimization / Line Construction
Phoenix, AZ
 
The Manager for Pairing Optimization / Line Construction will manage a team of Crew Planners responsible for producing pairing and bid lines for pilots and flight attendants.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee construction of pairings/bid lines and special operations to ensure maximum customer satisfaction, safety and on-time performance
  • Oversee the bid period union review of pairing and bid lines and resolve outstanding issues with the Union Scheduling Committee
  • Manage a team of planners responsible for ensuring productivity and efficiency
  • Oversee construction of pairings and bid lines for pilots and flight attendants considering FARs, maximum efficiency, collective bargaining agreements and crew safety
  • Review flight schedules with Route Planning to ensure adequate crew coverage and scheduling efficiency
  • Oversee schedule changes and special operations, post pairing build, to ensure maximum customer satisfaction, safety and on-time performance
  • Establish processes to improve crew productivity and minimize crew costs
  • Lead project works involving crew analyses and recommend solutions or enhancements for identified problems
  • Lead strategy to optimize crew costs and productivity
  • Interact with vendors to provide enhancements to current crew systems and create automation
  • Ensures crew staff plans comply with union contract rules and FAA regulations
  • Work closely with the Schedule Planning Department to evaluate new block hour business plans and provide input to Schedule Planning to request changes in order to optimize crews
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required
 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business, Economics, or related field, or equivalent experience/training; advanced degree preferred
  • At least 5 years experience in highly analytical airline position or related field
  • At least 2 years experience in a supervisory/leadership role
  • Experience structuring presentations for Officers and Senior Management to present to Board of Directors, CEO and Officers, in concise manner
  • Ability to perform data extraction and manipulation, analyze complex data and generate reports, manipulate and summarize large sets of data
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels within the organization as well as with vendors
  • High performance orientation, ability to work well under pressure, prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and maintain flexibility
  • Strong leadership capabilities and excellent teamwork
  • Ability to negotiate
  • Strong spreadsheet modeling and quantitative skills
  • General knowledge of business administration disciplines (e.g., Finance, Contract Negotiations, Labor Analysis, Labor Relations, etc.)
 
Highly proficient in use of Microsoft Office software, including Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
