The organization is a private, non-profit educational organization designed to increase interest and enthusiasm in science, mathematics, and the technologies, particularly among elementary and middle school teachers and students.

Etowah Center’s support to the Tiger Flight Foundations is primarily through curriculum development in the sciences associated with flight including earth, life, and physical science and through the planning, organizing, and coordinating field trips to Richard B. Russell Airport in Rome.

The EAA Young Eagles Program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.

Since 1992, more than 1.1 million Young Eagles have enjoyed a flight through the program. Young Eagles have been registered in more than 90 different countries and have been flown by nearly 40,000 volunteer pilots.

TigerFlight participates in the Young Eagles program at the Home airport and other locations.

"Thank you for the exciting day my children and I had at the home school fieldtrip, Friday, Sept.22nd, at the Russell Airport. As a home educator it is always important and thrilling to see my children experience learning. Our day was fun filled and so informational. All aspects of that day was dynamic.

I personally loved the atmosphere of the Tiger Flight hanger with its WWII theme and music. That was before my time, but my grandfather was in that war and never spoke of it. He was a POW for 18 months and experienced many horros. Thank you for making a point to not glamorize war. My grandmother cared for their five children while he was away, never knowing where he was or if he would come home to them.

My own father was in the airforce after the war and has many exciting stories to tell.

My daughter, Tarra, was the student chosen, and given permission, to taxi around the runway, in the Tiger, with you. Now she has a very special story to tell my dad.

Thank you again for a memorable day and I will highly recommend this fieldtrip to others.

"Tiger Flight conducted a wonderful fieldtrip for our sixth grade students. Comments from the kids, "It was awesome, and it was great," were chimed in unison upon our return to school. They even asked if we could go back again. The basics of aeronautics were brought down to a level a novice could understand. I highly recommend the experience to anyone studying Earth Science in Georgia. We can't wait to go back with our 8th graders. Even the teacher will be excited to learn more at Russell Field about flight, WWII, and Tiger Flight."
